York Regional Police reported early Saturday morning that the second of the four victims from the incident on Case Nova Drive had succumbed to their injuries. Officers responded to reports of gunfire at a house on Casa Nova Drive, west of Weston and Davos roads, just before nine in the morning.

Upon arrival, police discovered four victims inside the house, two of whom had life-threatening injuries, according to York Regional Police Constable Lisa Moskaluk. Three of the victims were rushed to the hospital, but one succumbed to their injuries immediately. The second victim later died. The deceased have been identified as 40-year-old Thi Trang DO and 2-year-old Marcus VU, both residents of Vaughan.
The other two victims are reported to be in stable condition. Early indications suggest that the incident was isolated and targeted, posing no immediate threat to the public, Moskaluk stated on Friday.
Suspect and Charges
Van Viet Duong, a 41-year-old resident of Toronto, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder. Police believe that the victims knew Duong and that the shooting was a targeted attack.

Investigators are looking into any prior events that may have occurred at the house or in the neighborhood. “They will attempt to piece together that information to ascertain the reason behind the targeting of these individuals today,” Moskaluk said.
