Richard was an active member of the Home Builders Association, serving as the Elkhart County Chapter President for two terms. In 2012, he was honored as the Builder of the Year in Elkhart County. His leadership extended beyond his professional work; he led various charitable organizations and served on several nonprofit boards. Richard was also a devoted member of the Mennonite Church of Waterford.
