The incident occurred just after 6:30 p.m., prompting a response from Joliet police. According to Joliet police spokesperson Dwayne English, officers were dispatched to the scene at West Jefferson Street and Airport Drive for a multi-vehicle traffic accident involving injuries.

Victim Identified

The Will County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased driver as Peter J. Graff. Graff was driving a Ford Ranger truck when the collision occurred.

Sequence of Events

According to the initial report:

  • Graff’s Ford Ranger collided with the rear passenger side of a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by a 44-year-old woman from Shorewood. Both vehicles were traveling west on West Jefferson Street in the inside lane.
  • Graff’s truck then struck the rear driver’s side of a Tesla Model 3 driven by a 38-year-old individual, also traveling west on West Jefferson Street in the curb lane.
  • Following these collisions, Graff’s truck swerved between the Jeep and the Tesla into oncoming eastbound traffic, where it collided head-on with a Pontiac Torrent driven by a 22-year-old man from Rockdale.
