It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joyce Marie Hoff, 85, of Mason City, IA, who left us peacefully in her sleep on June 11, 2024.
A Life of Service and Adventure
Joyce was born on August 11, 1939, on a farm near Lone Rock, IA, to George Sears and Ardith (Knoll) Sears-Holt. An active member of the LeRoy, MN Wide Awake 4-H Club, she served as president and treasurer. Her dedication to 4-H led her to show the champion Ayrshire yearling at the Austin, MN fair and later the grand champion Ayrshire at the Minnesota State Fair. Joyce also earned the title of runner-up for Princess Kay of the Milky Way at the Minnesota State Fair.
A Life of Love and Family
After graduating from Grand Meadow High School in Grand Meadow, MN, Joyce worked at the Kahler Grand Hotel in Rochester, MN. She was blessed with two sons, David and Douglas, from her first marriage. Joyce later found the love of her life, Marion “Dick” Hoff, with whom she welcomed their daughter, Shawn, into the family.
A Life of Talent and Creativity
Joyce was known for her exceptional talents and high ethical standards. She loved to sew, creating clothes, drapes, curtains, and stuffed animals. Cooking and baking were also her passions, with her lasagna being a favorite among friends and family. During the holidays, Joyce’s cookie and candy trays, made from over 50 dozen cookies and numerous candies, were highly anticipated.
A Life of Adventure and Travel
Joyce and her husband, Dick, shared a love for camping, eventually upgrading from a wet tent to a camper. They traveled across the Midwest, seeking out the best fishing spots. Joyce also excelled in archery, winning several trophies for her skill.
A Life of Friendship and Community
In her later years, Joyce cherished the company of her friends and neighbors, often engaging in friendly chats and card games. Her presence brought joy and companionship to those around her.
