He began his career at American International Group Inc. (AIG) in New York, eventually rising to senior vice president at its American Home Assurance Co. unit. In 1987, he joined Berkshire Hathaway Inc. as head of its commercial casualty operations. By 1992, he had moved to Zurich American Insurance, where he served as president of its specialties unit and later as senior executive vice president of group operations for Zurich Insurance Group.
Arch Capital Group, reorganized from its predecessor company Risk Capital Reinsurance Co., recruited Mr. Iordanou as president in 2001. He was named CEO in 2003 and chairman in 2009. Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Iordanou was also a board member of Verisk Analytics Inc. and served as the senior independent director of the Bank of Cyprus. He was a passionate supporter of Broadway and West End theater productions and had recently been involved in efforts to finance a new stadium for the Cypriot soccer team APOEL Nicosia.
Mr. Iordanou is survived by his wife, Marianne, and their three daughters.
