Classic Refried Beans: A Delicious and Versatile Recipe

Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a skillet over medium heat.

Add 1 diced onion and 2 minced garlic cloves, sautéing until softened.

Stir in 2 cans of drained and rinsed pinto beans.

Mash the beans with a potato masher or fork until smooth.

Season with 1 teaspoon of cumin, 1/2 teaspoon of chili powder, salt, and pepper to taste.

Cook, stirring occasionally, until the beans are heated through and thickened.

If desired, add a splash of water or broth to adjust consistency.

Serve the refried beans as a side dish, in burritos, tacos, or as a dip with tortilla chips.
