Sterling Walsh Accident, Death & Obituary: Sterling Allen Walsh, 29, of New Lisbon and formerly of Sauk City, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 15, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones at Gunderson Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse following a tragic accident.

Remembering Sterling Walsh

Born on October 21, 1994, to Dean and Joanne (Vertein) Walsh in Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital, Sterling grew up to be a remarkable individual. He graduated from Sauk Prairie High School in 2013, where he distinguished himself in soccer and tennis, earning accolades as the #1 singles player and Team Captain.

Sterling pursued his passion for education at the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh, graduating with a BA in education. His career led him to Mauston High School, where he taught mathematics since 2019. Sterling’s commitment to his students extended beyond the classroom; he coached the Girls’ Tennis Team and served as Assistant Coach for the Boys’ Tennis Team, fostering a love for sports and learning.

Sterling’s Life and Hobbies

Known for his positive outlook and competitive spirit, Sterling thrived as an advisor for the School Math Team, guiding them to victory in the South-Central Conference Math Competition and Mauston’s first championship. Outside of work, Sterling enjoyed bowling and video games, activities that brought joy and camaraderie into his life.

Sterling met Katie Nelson, the love of his life, while working at the Dells Army Ducks, and they married on October 2, 2021. They made their home in New Lisbon, where Sterling embraced community life and shared his passions with Katie.

Funeral Arrangements

A funeral service honoring Sterling Walsh will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 24, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 100 Oak St., Prairie du Sac. Prior to the service, a visitation will take place on Sunday, June 23, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will follow at Prairie du Sac Cemetery.

Sterling’s legacy lives on through organ donation, a testament to his generous spirit and the support of Gunderson Lutheran Hospital staff, particularly Nurse Anna, the organ donation team, and Juneau County first responders.

Sterling Walsh will be dearly missed by all whose lives he touched with his warmth, dedication, and unwavering kindness.
