A 15-year-old Deshler High School student has died following a shooting in Muscle Shoals on Sunday morning.
What happened at Muscle Shoals?
According to the Muscle Shoals Police Department, the incident happened around 7:28 a.m. after 15-year-old Demarion Richardson was found with a gunshot wound at the Red Roof Inn on Woodward Avenue. The victim was transported to Helen Keller Hospital where he later died from injuries.
Russ Tate Statement
Tuscumbia City Schools Superintendent Russ Tate confirmed the victim went to the school but the high school’s official Facebook page identified the student.
“We’re praying for the families right now and the students at Deshler. Our thoughts are with them right now. This is truly a tragedy for the City of Tuscumbia and the Shoals area. We are deeply saddened by the loss,” Tate wrote in a press release. Police said a 16-year-old suspect had been taken into custody. Charges are expected to follow.
The incident remains under investigation.
School officials say grief counselors are on campus this week to support any student and faculty.
